Marlene Dietrich: Live in Gateshead (A Curious Winter Cabaret)
Wednesday 18 December 2019, 8pm
After touring internationally with award-winning one (wo)man show, Dietrich: Natural Duty, actor and drag artist Peter Groom returns to the North East with a brand new cabaret.
Drawing inspiration from Marlene Dietrich’s iconic solo show, performed internationally during her last years in the limelight, this new cabaret is a sensational evening of song that revisits some of the Hollywood star’s most memorable numbers, including Lili Marlene, Lola, and of course Falling in Love Again.
Besides Dietrich’s most notable numbers, Groom will also reimagine classics from the Great American Songbook as well as some festive songs, in the inimitable style of the woman Hemingway called “the beautiful mystery”.
Friday 31 January 2020, 7pm
As straightforward as the title suggests: no frills, no gimmicks, no pretence: Simply Dylan is John O’Connell’s personal exploration and celebration of the rich and diverse work of Bob Dylan.
It is the band’s precise playing and high energy renditions of Dylan’s work that has gone from a modest project recognising Dylan’s 70th Birthday in 2011 to selling out the Cavern Club 6 times, receiving fantastic reviews from audiences across the UK, and igniting a new wave of passion for one of the world’s most prodigious song writers.
John O’Connell, formerly of Groundpig has had his name indelibly written in to the tapestry of Liverpool’s music scene and has collaborated with other highly reputable musicians to form his Dylan Band.
