The fast-growing holiday home rental agency ranked 80th in the UK-wide list, which aims to celebrate and showcase excellence in the workplace.
It also picked up a special recognition award for the Most Improved Mid-Sized Company, based on staff feedback on wellbeing, personal growth, culture and leadership.
According to the judges’ report, the majority (84%) of employees believe they can make a valuable contribution to the firm’s success and feel proud to work for it (80%).
Peter de Vere, HR Director at Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “We’re so proud of this achievement – it’s brilliant that our people feel that Sykes is such as great place to work.
“Our employees are the driving force in our success, so we’ve focused on offering the best workspace, wellbeing initiatives and development opportunities in the region.
“We’ve got big plans for the business over the next few years, and we’re always looking for talented and motivated people to join the Sykes family.”
To be eligible, companies must employ at least 250 full-time employees, and demonstrate support of the local community and charitable initiatives.
On Sykes, the judges said: “Respect for the environment and local communities is an important part of this tourism-focused enterprise. All staff can participate in voluntary activities during work time for one day a year.
“Colleagues agree that the business encourages charitable activities, and say their teammates are fun to work with and go out of their way to be helpful.”
Sykes employs nearly 500 people, the majority of whom are based at its HQ in One City Place, near Chester train station. It hosts more than 13 million travellers a year and aims to have 20,000 cottages on its books by the end of 2020.
Earlier this year, Sykes was also named as a ‘One to Watch’ in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100 league table, which ranks Britain’s fastest-growing private companies over the last three years.
