Guests vote for top hotel in the UK

Windermere’s Cedar Manor hotel has taken the top prize at a major award ceremony in London.

The hotel was named the best in the UK at the “BoHos”, the boutique hotel awards, and was also named the winner of the UK country and coast small hotel category.

The BoHos, organised by Boutique Hotel News, reward the boutique and lifestyle hotels which provide “the very best in guest experiences”. They are distinctive in that the winners are decided, not by judges, but by the hotels' guests, using a combination of aggregated verified guest feedback from review sites and booking engines worldwide, and direct guest feedback via questionnaires.

The winners were announced at a ceremony at the Montcalm Royal London House hotel. Properties from as far afield as Australia, South Africa, Vietnam, Kenya, South Korea, Italy, Russia, Zambia and Brazil entered the awards. Each hotel's data was collected over a two month period, after which each entrant's guest reviews and direct feedback were independently evaluated, scored and ranked by the leading hospitality management institution, the  Glion Institute of Higher Education.

Two other Cumbrian hotels, Grasmere’s Forest Side, and Hipping Hall at Kirby Lonsdale, were shortlisted.

Cedar Manor’s co-owner Caroline Kaye, (pictured, third from right) who attended the event, said: “We are so thrilled to win this prestigious award. It’s a real tribute to the efforts of our team who work so hard to create the ultimate luxury experience for our guests and it’s especially pleasing that our guests appreciate staying here so much.”
