Beaumont College Students Benefit from Air Time at Beyond Radio

Adam and Luke Stutchbury, 19 year old twins from Beaumont College, who both have cerebral palsy, are benefitting from hosting their own radio show on Lancaster and Morecambe’s Beyond Radio.

Luke began volunteering at the radio station almost two years ago, while Adam followed 20 months ago. Now, they take it in turns to host the weekly, Morning Show. The pair have invited guests from local schools and colleges to chat about current issues and activities.

Adam and Luke volunteer at Beyond Radio with the support of Duncan Moore the Manager ay Beyond Radio. Beaumont College is supporting the pair to further develop work skills by offering regular opportunities to DJ at college events and develop technical skills through subjects such as Employment Skills and Beaumont College Record Company - where students learn essential skills regarding music production.

On his work at Beyond Radio, Luke said: “I really enjoy working on the radio, it has given me extra confidence to talk to a wide range of people and to believe in myself more.

“I am part of the Beaumont College Record Company, my role at the radio station enables me to promote and support our work. I am hoping in the future we will be able to go and do a live set for the station!

“I am currently learning to use the sound desk, the radio station is supporting me with this by purchasing specialist equipment to enable me to control this with one hand.”

Adam and Luke’s weekly show features twelve songs, which they choose themselves, and with help from their sister, they insert adverts.

Adam added: “I am in charge of running the desk and the output of music and sound at the station. It is helping me to improve my technology skills.

“I like to help my community.”

Becky Hodgson, Pathway Coordinator at Beaumont College said: “We are delighted that Adam and Luke have found their niche at Beyond Radio. It’s so valuable for our young people to gain real-world experiences which help them to grow their confidence.”

Duncan Moore, Communities Director at Beyond Radio, said: “It’s a pleasure to have Adam and Luke on board. They’re a real asset to the team at Beyond Radio. It’s been a pleasure to work with them as they’ve developed new skills over the past couple of years.”

The Morning Show airs between 11am and 12noon on Saturdays online and at 103.5FM.
