New sports gear for those interested in athletics

Improve your form and technique when racking up the miles on the road, track or trails with some uniquely designed running shoes and a nifty wearable sensor…

Adidas UltraBOOST laceless shoes

The latest iteration of Adidas’ UltraBOOST shoes will surely stand out for one key reason — they don’t have any laces. The idea is, with the use of Primeknit technology, the shoes will help runners feel dynamic and free, not to mention still supported and stable in their footwear. Stephen Schneider, the senior product manager at Adidas Running, added: “In removing laces, such a fundamental component of the silhouette, refinement of the remaining core elements was paramount. We reimagined the Primeknit architecture, making it more supportive and compressive to enable runners to feel released and empowered to achieve their full potential.”

Looking to improve your running style but not sure where to begin? Let us introduce you to you Lumo Run — a wearable sensor that only weighs 25g and can be easily and securely attached to the back of your shorts. Once in place, the technology makes use of seven different sensors every time you run, including a gyroscope and accelerometer. All this information is logged on an accompanying app, which you can check out after a run to review your cadence, changes in forward velocity, level of bounce and other factors which may be limiting your speed or endurance.

Ride on cycle-friendly routes every time and stay safe when you need to cycle on the road with these two handy pieces of cycling equipment…

CYCL WingLights

If you don’t feel confident to put your arm out to signal that you’re about to turn off a road or sometimes find it too difficult as it’s a complex road junction, help is at hand with CYCL WingLights. These innovative LED bicycle indicators are designed just like the indicators you see on a car — they flash at the same rate as a typical vehicle and are set up with two LEDs opposite each other. Simply equip them to your bike by either purchasing a fixed set or opting for those with solid magnetic fittings which can be removed when you desire — and you only need to push a button on the ends of the devices to turn them on and off.

New sports gear for those interested in football

If you’re a football fan, there’s surely only one topic that will matter over the next few months — the FIFA World Cup 2018. Get ready for the prized tournament by having a kickabout with the official match ball while sporting the colours of the nation you’ll be backing for glory…

FIFA World Cup 2018 Official Match Ball

Titled the Telstar 18, Adidas’ official match ball of the FIFA World Cup 2018 is a nod towards the first-ever World Cup ball that was created by Adidas for the 1970 tournament — a ball which was decorated with black panels so that it could stand out on black-and-white TVs at the time. The Telstar 18 again features black panels in a pixelated design, etched onto a thermally bonded seamless surface to achieve more predictable trajectory, lower water intake and improved touch. Demonstrating that this ball comes from the 21st century, a NFC chip has also been embedded into the ball so that smartphone users can unlock exclusive content onto their devices the more they play.

FIFA World Cup 2018 Kits

There’s one constant when a World Cup tournament comes around — the release of a plethora of new national kits in the months leading to the competition. For the 2018 tournament, Adidas has been tasked with creating 12 of the jerseys and Nike responsible for another 10. Errea, Hummel, New Balance, Puma, Uhlsport and Umbra are all involved, too. Highlights of the England kits are that you can find a rosette on the inside of each shirt and the player numbers are no longer printed onto the centre of the jersey but instead in a space just under the crest. Many of the other kits offer tributes to kits from yesteryear. Germany’s is a homage to the jerseys worn when the team won the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy, for example, while Nigeria’s will bring back memories of the kit the country’s players wore when the nation qualified for its first World Cup in 1994. Of course, your selection will likely come down to which nation your allegiance lies with or the country you’d most like to see lift the illustrious gold trophy.
