Wirral youngster named as finalist in dream 'Kid-chen Designer' role

Wirral youngster named as finalist in dream 'Kid-chen Designer' role

A young person from the Wirral has beaten off nationwide competition to be revealed as a finalist in Benchmarx Kitchens’ search for a Kid-chen Designer’.

Seven-year-old Max is one of the 11 shortlisted designers chosen from hundreds of entries – and is now one step closer to helping the company create its first kid-inspired kitchen.

The Kid-chen Designer role was created by Benchmarx Kitchens to discover what children aged between four and eleven years old would include in their ideal kitchen space.  The brief was simply to let their imagination fly. In return, the overall winner will see their design become reality, as well as being paid in family days out.

Packed with unique features, Max’s design impressed the panel of kitchen experts at Benchmarx Kitchens due to its inventiveness, build-ability and forward thinking.

Max’s kitchen included a hot chocolate machine, fridge with ice cream tap and a food delivery zip line – every foodies dream.

Judges also particularly loved the soft play area, accessed only by a secret tunnel.

How Max’s design performs against its rivals is now in your hands, as the company is asking people to vote for their favourite. All 11 can be seen by visiting www.benchmarxkitchens.co.uk/kid-chen and clicking on the link to the Kid-chen voting page.

Max commented on his entry: “I love drawing and coming up with ideas so was really excited when I saw Benchmarx Kitchens were looking for someone to do just that. It would be brilliant to see my design built for real so I can walk around it and see how it all works.

“My favourite part of my design is the food delivery zip line. I’ve got my fingers crossed that everyone votes for me as the winner.”

Bella Glenn, part of Benchmarx Kitchen’s design team and Kid-chen panel, said: “We were astounded at both the number of entries and high-standard of designs that we received. It was clear that a lot of thought had gone into the drawings, along with fantastic creative flair, so it was really difficult to shortlist the hundreds of applications down to only 11!

“Designs that demonstrated consideration for how a kitchen could enhance family life were favoured, as well as those that embodied elements of originality. Max’s design was a firm favourite amongst the panel and ticked both of these boxes – particularly with his soft play area accessed by a secret tunnel!

“We all wish Max, and all of the shortlisted finalists, the best of luck in the voting stage and hope people will take a moment to choose their favourite design.”

The winning applicant will receive £500 worth of leisure vouchers in return for their creativity and will see their design bought to life by experts at Benchmarx Kitchens. As the ‘Kid-chen Designer’ in charge, they will play a key role in selecting the materials from their local branch to create the finished article.
